As he declared Falkirk to be the best team his Celtic club had faced this season, Brendan Rodgers made a pointed jab at the Rangers.
Earlier in the season, Celtic defeated the Gers 3-0 at Parkhead, and on Sunday, September 22, they defeated Falkirk 5-2 in the Scottish League Cup.
In his post-match interview with Premier Sports on September 22, Aaron Rodgers took a harsh jab at Rangers by declaring that Falkirk was the best opponent his team had faced.
“I’ve really enjoyed studying Falkirk and watching them because of what John McGlynn is doing in terms of a football idea and the game, they’re probably the best team that we’ve played this season in terms of how they want to work the game and how they want to work the ball,” the speaker stated.
That Brendan Rodgers taunt at the Rangers is absurd.
How is a team that gave up five goals, including four in the first 14 minutes of the second half, any better than Rangers?
It’s unclear whether Rodgers intended for his remarks to be seen as a jab at Rangers, but whatever of his intentions, he has betrayed the Light Blues by painting them in a negative light and elevating a team that plays in the Scottish Championship.
Should all go according to plan, Philippe Clement will get his opportunity for retribution when Rangers takes on Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final. The Belgian ought to instill the Rodgers footage deeply into the minds of all his players.
Of course, at Parkhead, the class divide between the two sides in Glasgow was glaring. The task of closing the gap with Celtic has not been made any simpler by the financial situation at Ibrox, and supporters will be hoping that the rumours of the club looking for alternative financing materialise and that the Gers can raise the necessary funds to add elite players to the squad.
Rangers are currently well behind Celtic in the standings, but if the players needed motivation before a potential League Cup final or when Rodgers’ team visits Ibrox in January, his most recent remarks should ignite a fire under everyone at the Light Blues.
