When Rangers play Malmo on September 26 to kick off their Europa League campaign, Philippe Clement is anticipated to make two changes.
The Germans will take on the Swedish champions to start the new league phase of the Europa League. The team lost 3-1 over two legs to Dynamo Kyiv, which eliminated them from the Champions League.
After defeating Dundee 3-0 in the Scottish League Cup quarterfinal, Clement is likely to bench the unproductive Dujon Sterling, and left-back Jefte is also suspended.
Neraysho Kasanwirjo may make his debut in full, but Mohamed Diomande is likely to start again in place of utility player Sterling.
Rangers vs. Dundee requires Mohamed Diomande to start.
With eight games spread across the continent, Clement will want his team to have the best possible start to their European campaign.
With Jack Butland in goal and Robin Propper partnering John Souttar at centre back, the core of the defensive will not change from the victory over Dundee.
Right-back James Tavernier, Clement’s first choice, will continue to play, although Jefte is out due to his suspension following a contentious red card against Kyiv in their Champions League qualifying match.
In the match against Dundee, Kasanwirjo made his much anticipated debut for the Gers as a substitute. Since Ridvan Yilmaz is currently out due to injury, it appears that the adaptable Feyenoord loanee will likely start at left defender.
Although Connor Barron is another player who is quickly becoming unstoppable, big-money addition Diomande needs to be the one to rejoin the Light Blues after Sterling, who Leon King has dubbed “amazing,” faltered in the victory over Dundee.
Nedim Bajrami made a good showing out wide in his debut start for the team, while the front four were all on point against Dundee and should continue to hold their positions. He will occupy the flanks along with Vaclav Cerny.
Tom Lawrence has been maintaining a strong profile as of late. Last Day Day arrival Bajrami should stay out of his favoured number 10 place until one of the players has Clement make a choice.
After scoring his sixth and seventh goals of the season against Dundee, maligned striker Cyriel Dessers is quietly going about his business this season and is Clement’s first choice up front.
