Rangers fans urge club to ‘free’ Ianis Hagi amid confusion over ‘ridiculous’ situation

The Rangers’ Ianis Hagi predicament still baffles the Ibrox fan base.

The 25-year-old Romanian international is still being selected for the national team, although he is currently wasting away in the Ibrox reserves.

After failing to negotiate a move out of Rangers this summer, Ianis Hagi has changed his stance this season, despite advocating for a move out of Ibrox last season.

Simultaneously, Philippe Clement has been adamant in his belief that Hagi has no future at Ibrox.

However, once the transfer window closed and fans at Ibrox continued to see Hagi play brilliantly for the Rangers B team, there were more and more cries for the Romanian to be brought back.

Supporters of the Rangers want Ianis Hagi to be reinstated.

Fans of the Rangers were surprised to see Ianis Hagi play for the B squad against Huddersfield.

The Romanian was once again chosen for a bounce match at the Ibrox club’s training facility, along with a number of academy players.

Hagi was the one who turned the match around at Auchenhowie as well, scoring a lethal double to win the bounce game 3-2 in injury time.

Hagi had also set up Findlay Curtis for the game’s first goal, with one of his goals being an incredible free kick attempt.

Rangers supporters are chatting about Hagi because of his dedication and contribution, which is contributing to the growing chorus of voices calling for his return to the starting lineup.

A supporter called Hagi’s treatment “sickening” and mentioned the Romanian’s dedication to Rangers despite other players, like Todd Cantwell, “throwing their toys out the pram.”

The Ibrox fan concluded his post by calling the state of affairs overall “a mess.”

Another fan called for all sides to work together to “find a solution,” saying the Rangers have “very poorly handled” the Hagi problem.

As the Rangers fanbase rails at the midfielder’s treatment, others have harshly criticised the current state of affairs.

More to Ianis Hagi at Ibrox than first glance

Although almost all Rangers supporters want the Ianis Hagi situation to be handled, there appears to be more going on at Ibrox.

According to Philippe Clement, it is not just his responsibility to reinstate Hagi.

Hagi has 99 appearances for Rangers currently. According to reports from earlier in the summer, the Romanian’s new contract would increase if he played one more game for the team.

However, it doesn’t seem reasonable that Rangers would be obstructing such a road unless that salary increase is significantly larger than would be expected.

Alternatively, Rangers would have to pay for a more significant add-on should the midfield player reach 100, as Hagi was bought by the team on a structured deal costing £3 million from KRC Genk in 2020.

Hagi returned to Ibrox after a failed loan spell with Alavés, having previously said goodbye to Rangers.

All sides had also suggested leaving in the summer, but as the opportunity closed, Hagi abruptly changed his position in public, maybe because the Romanian was not pleased with the possibilities available.

It’s also possible that Philippe Clement simply doesn’t like the Euro 2024 star, as he has Nedim Bajrami and Tom Lawrence vying for the “number ten” spot.

Whatever the case, Ianis Hagi’s circumstances at Ibrox are undoubtedly more complicated than they first appear.

Regarding the player, you are unable to find fault with the dedication, mindset, and effort he has demonstrated since making his way back to the Rangers during the summer.
