As the Gers take on Malmo in the Europa League, Philippe Clement is expected to do something that no previous Rangers manager has ever done.
The Ibrox team is ready to take on the Swedish champions in the opening game of their difficult Europa League group stage campaign, and they will be looking to start strong.
Nonetheless, Rangers has never defeated the Swedes at home or away, and the Allsvenskan team has shown itself to be a formidable European opponent in the past.
Before the match in Malmö, the Rangers players will be put through its paces, and one young Ibrox player will be aiming to make history by playing in his first Europa League.
Eyeing a Europa League debut, Hamza Igamane
With his last introduction to the Rangers first team, Hamza Igamane is generating a lot of enthusiasm among the fan base.
After spending £1.7 million to leave hometown team FAR Rabat in the summer, the 21-year-old Moroccan striker was offered the chance to reside in Glasgow.
After Igamane made a strong cameo against Dundee United, Cyriel Dessers used a lethal double to remind supporters of who the team’s first-choice number nine is.
The large striker from Nigeria, who has already scored seven goals this season, is anticipated to start at the front for Sweden, but Hamza Igamane will be hoping to get his first taste of European football as a bench warmer.
Igamane, who has yet to score in a game while wearing Rangers colours, was seen being evaluated prior to the match in Sweden in preparation for this evening’s Europa League debut.
Rangers’ striking talent is “something special.”
Rangers are aware that in order to defeat a formidable Malmo team and launch a successful Europa League campaign, they will need to perform at their highest level.
With more challenging games to come, this might be Rangers’ best chance to win three points away from Ibrox. All eyes will be on Philippe Clement’s revamped Gers team.
Fans are eager to watch Hamza Igamane improve as the gifted young Rangers attacker makes progress at Ibrox. He certainly looks like a prospect.
Ever generous, Cyriel Dessers wishes for the same thing as Rangers’ first-choice striker, who acknowledges that Igamane has “something special,” gets on board with the Igamane buzz.
Dessers said to Premier Sports, “Obviously you want to be pushed in training and in the games.”
“As you mention, you have to perform to keep the jersey, but you also need to play with Danilo and Hamza (Igamane) coming in.”
“You can see he has something special when he comes in today as well.
“He is a very good player, and I hope he will help us a lot this season. I am sure he will.”
