Following the 46-year-old striker Fabian Caballero’s passing, Dundee has honoured him.
The Paraguayan, who was a member of the Dens Park team from 2000 to 2005, is said to have passed out during a futsal match in his native country.
In addition to playing for Sol de America, Tacuary, Atletico Tembetary, Cerro Porteno, and Serro Portino in South America, Caballero also had a brief stint at Arsenal, making one appearance for the Gunners. At Dundee in 2003, he won a runners-up medal in the Scottish Cup.
A cult favourite among the Dundee faithful, Caballero made a comeback last November to participate in Cammy Kerr’s testimonial. Before Dundee’s Premiership match against Aberdeen at Dens Park this afternoon, they intend to honour Caballero.
“Everyone at Dundee Football Club is extremely shocked and saddened this morning to learn of the passing of former Dundee player Fabián Caballero,” the team said in a statement shared on social media.
Everyone at Dundee Football Club will sincerely mourn Fabian, who passed away at the age of 46. In July 2000, Fabián joined The Dee and quickly rose to the top of the Dundee fan base.
“Everyone at the club is thinking of Fabián’s family during this extremely difficult moment.
Later today, the club will release a comprehensive homage to Fabián. Fabián, rest in peace.
