Despite their draw with West Ham, Thomas Frank claims his players are “unbelievably fantastic.”
Thomas Frank made a daring statement regarding the recently deceased Ivan Toney following his team’s 1-1 draw with West Ham at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Star striker Bryan Mbeumo gave the Bees the lead within the first minute of play for the third straight game, but Tomas Soucek eventually equalised in the 54th, meaning the home team could not hold on to their lead.
Frank told the media during the game that although Brentford didn’t have the “cutting edge” to win, his team is “unbelievably fantastic” in the right context.
Frank acknowledged, “They out-played us for the first fifteen minutes of the second half, and we didn’t handle it well enough. But other than that, we were in control and really pushed for that 2-1 victory, without really having that cutting edge.”
Six of the nine first team players that we are missing might all theoretically start. Then, due to cramps, Kevin Shade left the game after the 60th minute. After that, we have nothing to shoot with. We need offensive substitutes to attempt to go forward even farther, and they are fielding (Crysencio) Summerville, a Greek international, a Spanish international, and they have a substantial financial advantage.
Putting all of that in perspective, I’m never satisfied when we lose, but I give the players a tonne of credit. I think what we do is simply amazing. When it came to making the obvious opportunities, we were behind the times. Our luck was not the same as Antonio’s. He was a wonderful assist even though he missed that shot totally.
The question concerning Mbeumo’s genius, who scored in 38 seconds, was then posed to the Danish head coach. The goal by the Cameroonian international made the Bees the first team in Premier League history to score three goals in a row in the first minute of play.
Frank responded, “There’s always room for improvement but he is on fire,” when asked what improvement the 25-year-old may offer and how they’ve managed to fend off transfer interest in him ahead of the 2024–25 campaign. He is excellent. When he was hurt last year, I believe he was on pace to score 15 goals, etc.
In December, he scored seven goals and provided four assists. I believe the biggest loss from last season was him. We naturally desired for Ivan to be present. We were unable to use Ivan because of his eight-month absence from the season. The bigger blow was losing Bryan after Ivan was gone.
“(Mbeumo) has added another level this year, scoring five goals in just six games. In addition, he continues to generate opportunities and put in a lot of effort for the club. He’s a top player in my opinion. He will play for a bigger club eventually, I’m sure of it; if I were a bigger club, I would get him.
He’s overjoyed to be here. While some may eventually need to go, many of us are really content because of our fantastic surroundings. We push one another and are good staff members and players.
The sky is the limit for any football player, as far as I’ve learnt. The player always has the final say, but it’s our job as staff to maximise their potential. Maximising potential is my main responsibility at the club, and Bryan has a great package, in my opinion.
