According to football business specialist Dan Plumley, Rangers’ jersey sponsorship deal with the Kindred Group is regarded as the “biggest deal” in Scottish sport.
The group, which is home to 32Red and Unibet, which are featured on the front of the Gers’ jerseys, and the Light Blues confirmed earlier this season that they had extended their partnership.
According to Plumley, Philippe Clement’s team might receive £3 million if all goes according to plan [Four Lads, September 18]. This would make the arrangement more costly than Celtic’s existing front-of-shirt sponsor.
With this one, I’ll try not to anger too many supporters, Plumley said exclusively to Ibrox News.
Obtaining the precise figures can be difficult since occasionally they incorporate them into their sponsorship or commercial revenue bundle, making it impossible to identify the exact amount.
Based on available information, the Celtic deal is estimated to be worth around £2.5 million annually, while the Rangers deal is valued at £3 million. This makes it the largest deal in Scottish football at the moment.
Since they don’t make that information publicly available, it can be difficult to draw straight comparisons between clubs that you might assume would be kind of in and around Rangers in that space throughout Europe.
Looking straight at the top, where we do have some idea of the figures, you can see that the top 10 jersey sponsorship deals are clocking in at between €50 million and €70 million annually.
“They are the biggest clubs, of course, but it helps you understand the scope of the competition at the top of the industry.”
“However, Rangers are correct when they say that this appears to be a huge deal for Scottish football and that Rangers will benefit from it.”
How much separates Celtic and Rangers in the Old Firm?
Even if the two Old Firm teams’ financial situations are still very different, the fact that the Gers were able to land such a big contract is encouraging.
In the upcoming years, as they attempt to reclaim Glasgow and the Scottish Premiership, hopefully this will be the first of many victories that strengthen the Light Blues’ standing off the pitch.
Although the current Ibrox board has come under fire for making some dubious choices in previous seasons, this seems like a positive move.
