Troy Deeney makes double Leicester City pick after ‘one of the best performances I’ve seen’
Despite the team’s 4-2 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, the former Watford striker has selected two City players for his side of the weekend.
Mads Hermansen earned a spot in the former striker’s squad of the weekend by putting on “one of the best performances” Troy Deeney had ever seen from a losing custodian.
As City fell 4-2 against Arsenal, Hermansen made 13 saves, one less than the Premier League record. At 2-2, the Dane produced a series of masterful saves that left the 60,000 spectators inside the Emirates Stadium in shock. In extra time, Wilfred Ndidi blocked Leandro Trossard’s corner kick attempt, breaking his resistance.
Hermansen was the best-performing goalie in the division this weekend, according to Deeney, who included him in the starting lineup for his BBC Sport column, despite giving up four goals. Attending the match, the former Watford striker was really impressed.
Deeney remarked, “I know he was on the losing team, but he made five incredible saves to keep Leicester in the match and give them a chance to win.” In all honesty, it was among the best goalie performances I’ve ever witnessed on a losing team.
It was the first time a City player has been included in Deeney’s weekly line-up this term. But Hermansen was joined by a team-mate. James Justin was bound to be a factor after scoring twice from right-back, particularly with the calibre of his volleyed equaliser.
After selecting the England international, Deeney remarked, “I don’t remember him having much to do defensively, with all the troubles coming down Arsenal’s right.” “He then scored his first goal in the second half with a good header, and his incredible volley to equalise was incredible as well. Although there were many things that may have gone wrong, the technique was very good.
