The chance to take over as Johannes Hoff Thorup’s new assistant at Norwich City has been turned down by highly regarded Danish coach Fatah Abdirahman.
Fabrizio Romano claims that although Thorup gave the 32-year-old the chance to replace Narcis Pelach on his coaching staff, he chose to stay with his current company, Randers FC.
Abdirahman was allegedly offered a package by City to relocate to England, but he chose to hold out for a different chance abroad.
It is said that the Canaries were considering the Dane, but they have now changed their course of pursuit. It’s unlikely that an appointment will be set before Saturday’s matchup with Hull. The applicants are still being spoken with.
Following Pelach’s departure last month to take up the position as head coach at Championship rival Stoke, Norwich is still looking for a replacement coach. Temporarily stepping up to Thorup’s staff is academy manager Joe Shulburg.
Tony Roberts has previously been appointed by City to take Paul Clements’ place as head of goalkeeping. Thorup has accompanied the former AC Milan coach to Derby and Leeds United’s previous two Championship matchdays.
Glen Riddersholm assists Thorup as well; at the press conference on Friday, he provided an update regarding their search for a new first-team coach.
“It’s all about the little things now that I’ve had some successful encounters. We’ve taken our time because it’s crucial that we find the appropriate individual who can support us in the most effective manner. It’s actually the same process as hiring a goalie coach’, the Dane remarked.
“It should be a player for the club’s future as well, but we have the time we need and it won’t be rushed thanks to the academy coaches’ assistance. We won’t work on it all night to finish it off.
“We’re drawing nearer. As an assistant coach, Joe has been providing support. He will remain in the group when it makes sense, but his presence is crucial. They’ve provided excellent support to both the coaching staff and the group.”
