Harlequins’ first impressions of sevens superstar Rodrigo Isgro

Summertime acquisition This week, Rodrigo Isgro made his Harlequin debut by joining his new squad two days after making his Argentina debut on the wing against South Africa in the Rugby Championship final round on Saturday.

The man who is currently the World Rugby men’s sevens player of the year has had an incredible summer in both the 15- and seven-man formats.

The 25-year-old participated in Argentina’s Olympic campaign in Paris, losing to eventual champions France in the quarterfinals once more. He then switched to the 15s for The Rugby Championship, where his only appearance occurred in the loss to the Springboks in Mbombela. After helping Los Pumas Sevens win the HSBC SVNS league title and losing to France in the Grand Final in Madrid.

The Argentine signed with Quins in September amid a hectic few months, and he teamed up with them on Monday. Head coach Danny Wilson has stated that the player’s debut is soon to come.

Wilson has been pleased with what he has seen in Isgro, characterising his new recruit as a “big winger,” despite the fact that Isgro has spent his first few days only exercising in the gym.

Isgro, who weighs 100 kg, will be a valuable asset to Quins on the wing because of his quickness, which is commensurate with his strong build.

Wilson remarked last week, “He joined us yesterday, and we welcomed him.” He worked out a little today—not on the pitch, but in the gym and other small areas—and it’s excellent that he’s settling nicely.

“He has a lot of wings.” He’s a huge boy. excited to see him play on the pitch.

Quins’ arrival couldn’t have come at a better time, as their back-three stocks have lately run out. The London team lost young sensation Cassius Cleaves to a hamstring injury in the victory over Newcastle Falcons, adding to the injuries that already plagued vice-captain Cadan Murley and Tyrone Green going into the season. Leigh Halfpenny is another player that could be out.

Wilson stated that Isgro will play in the “coming weeks,” even though Friday’s Gallagher Premiership matchup at Franklin’s Gardens against the defending champion Northampton Saints may be too soon for him to make his debut.

Wilson stated: “It’s good timing, and hopefully, we can get him out there in the coming weeks. Our back three have picked up a number of bumps and injuries right now.”

Professional rugby players will always have injuries, but should everyone recover fully, there will be a fascinating competition for the No. 11, No. 14, and No. 15 jerseys.
