Simon Jordan reacts as Jim White makes Rangers claim after Celtic Champions League defeat

Following Jim White’s admission that Celtic could have won in Germany based on Rangers’ performance against Borussia Dortmund, Simon Jordan has responded.

On Tuesday, October 1, Brendan Rodgers’ team suffered their first Champions League loss of the year as they were crushed 7-1, leaving their chances of qualifying for the playoffs in shambles.

Even though talkSPORT host White was quick to criticise Rodgers’ setup, he did remark that Premiership teams can perform on the biggest stage, as evidenced by the Gers’ victory over Dortmund during their run to the Europa League final.

In an interview with talkSPORT on Wednesday, October 2, at 10:29, White stated, “This is his second 7-1 loss at the club. That comes after victories of 5-0, 6-0, and 7-0.

“They gave up twice in three minutes against Lazio in Rome and three times in seven minutes in a 6-0 loss to Atletico Madrid last season.

“This is Scott saying, ‘It has nothing to do with the Scottish league’; Rangers recently defeated Dortmund to advance to the European final. So it can be done.”

“It can be done, absolutely it can be done,” was Jordan’s response. However, we do know that the financial power of football teams influences results more often than not, and we also know of a standard statistic indicating that the higher your wage bill, the higher your chances of rising through the league.

“You’re going to have better players and a better team if you have a wage bill of £400 million like Manchester City has.”

When does Rangers’ next Ibrox Europa League match take place?

Rangers, who have missed out on Champions League qualification the past two seasons, don’t exactly have a strong position when it comes to their record in the competition right now.

But the Gers have shown time and time again that they have a knack for performing on the European stage, even when the odds have been stacked against them.

The Light Blues can put on a show on those European nights, whether it’s because of Ibrox’s strength or just the way they’ve been coached. Celtic, for some reason, haven’t been able to replicate that.

However, Philippe Clement’s team will not wish to play football in the Europa League for another season. To truly make an impression on the European scene, they must find a way to re-enter the Champions League.

Reminiscing about past triumphs, like the victory over Dortmund, is all well and good, but the Light Blues would prefer to create more occasions like that rather than stand by and watch their Old Firm rivals stumble.
