Reports from Emiliano Marcondes’ home country of Denmark indicate that he is on the verge of joining Norwich City.
Following the injuries to Onel Hernandez, Ashley Barnes, and Christian Fassnacht, the Canaries have been considering their options, and the 29-year-old is one of them.
According to Tipsbladet, Marcondes is expected to sign with Norwich as the last terms of a deal between the sides are being finalised.
This entails getting back together with former manager Johannes Hoff Thorup, who is the head coach at Carrow Road right now and collaborated with his countryman at the Danish team Nordsjaelland.
Just four days after assuming leadership of the Tigers, Thorup recruited the attacking midfielder from Bournemouth on a loan, and the two now seem to be focussing on a second stint together.
Marcondes, who was cut by the Cherries this summer, has been working out with Nordsjaelland to stay in shape. He played for Brentford in the past, and he spent a loan spell at Hibernian to end his stay on the south coast.
When Thorup was the club’s youth coach, the former Midtjylland player also progressed through the academy at FCN, earning his move to England after 119 club appearances.
In the summer, City was connected to a move for him, but they chose to seek other possibilities. Since then, they’ve investigated out-of-contract players because the depth of the first team roster is at risk due to those injuries.
After suffering a hamstring injury in the 4-1 victory against Watford, Hernandez is expected to miss over 10 weeks of action, and Fassnacht won’t rejoin the club until after the international break.
Ashley Barnes had an Achilles injury, and while Thorup did not provide a timetable for his recovery, he did state in his pre-Leeds press conference that Barnes was back in a protective boot. The striker underwent surgery this summer, but the anticipated outcome is still pending.
Only if a player is found who not only has the necessary level of fitness but also can make an immediate impact in yellow and green will Norwich make an addition to their roster.
