Vaclav Cerny put up a brilliant performance for Rangers against lowly St Johnstone, but he hasn’t quite made up for his recent slump in form.
That kind of team should be defeated by a player with an £8 million price tag, especially at Ibrox where he is surrounded by an international football team.
Philippe Clement had a word in the winger’s ear following the recent problems of Vaclav Cerny and was rewards richly, but, in an emotional and open press conference from the Czechia winger, the best might yet be to come from the Rangers number 18.
Vaclav Cerny is only interested in improving for the Rangers.
The only criterion used to evaluate forwards wearing the light blue shirt is numbers.
Similar to Abdallah Sima, if you don’t score or create goals, it doesn’t matter how good you are at passing or dribbling.
Even when things aren’t going well, work rate is something that fans also want to witness.
Cerny was quick to clarify that he is not at all delighted despite having contributed a goal per 100 minutes in the league with his three goals and two assists thus far.
“There are now three goals, but there could have been six earlier.
“I’m just letting you know how I think. I always expect the best of myself, and I know that the two opportunities I lost were significant ones. That’s the past, though, so let’s move on to the next three.”
Cerny is aware that a successful game at the Rangers is meaningless.
The Rangers players need to adopt this mindset. Cerny has every reason to be pleased with his goal contribution every ninety-five minutes in the league, but he is expecting more from himself.
Cerny is shown his concern even while on loan.
The 26-year old also talked about waking up during the night while worrying about his recent misses against Hibs and Lyon.
Cerny has proven that he can rise to the occasion and manage the pressure when many people thought he would never play for the Rangers again, and the shirt doesn’t shrink to fit.
The RAF’s motto is “Per Ardua Ad Astra,” which translates to “Through Adversity to the Stars.” Cerny currently seems to be following this route.
The jet-heeled winger is hopefully off to a flyer and leaves his downturn of the past behind him.
