In light of the uncertainty surrounding his future at Manchester United, the Manchester United player was seen watching Sunderland’s victory against Oxford United in the Championship on Saturday from home.
When Amad, 22, joined Manchester United in 2021 for £19 million, he signed a contract that would last until June 2025. If certain conditions are met, the deal may be valued up to an extra £18.2 million. There is also a one-year extension option included in the agreement.
After trying to establish himself in the first team at Old Trafford, Amad has spent time on loan at Sunderland and Rangers throughout his time at Manchester United. Since returning to Manchester United, the attacking midfielder has displayed incredible talent, helping the Red Devils defeat rivals Liverpool in the quarterfinal of the FA Cup last season with a late winner.
But during United’s most recent Europa League encounter against Fenerbahce, manager Erik ten Hag ignored Amad. When Ten Hag substituted Antony for Amad, who had a thunder-like visage when he was brought on later with one minute remaining, the match was knotted at one.
In fact, Amad was seen on Instagram on Saturday while Sunderland defeated Oxford United 2-0 at home at the Stadium of Light. With 12 games remaining in the 2024–25 season, the Black Cats now lead the Championship by five points.
Following the draw, Ten Hag stated: “Amad, he is doing well,” following the game. However, I also have to commend Antony for his training efforts. I thought it was appropriate to bring him on to determine the game at that particular moment because he poses a threat throughout practically every training session.
With the club in turmoil under new co-owners INEOS, Amad’s future is still uncertain as his contract is coming to an end and it is uncertain if Manchester United will exercise their option to extend it for another year. In addition, Amad was not included in the starting lineup for Sunday’s match against West Ham.
Last summer and in January, Sunderland asked about re-signing the player on loan, but they were informed that he wasn’t available. After finishing the previous season in strong form and scoring the aforementioned thrilling FA Cup victory over Liverpool, Amad went on to play frequently in the Premier League.
