This week, the Souths captain is scheduled to have surgery.
Cameron Murray, the captain of South Sydney, hurt his wrist while preparing before the Kangaroos’ Pacific Championship matchup with New Zealand.
Murray may potentially miss the start of the 2025 NRL season after playing through the injury.
Murray showed incredible fortitude in the face of the loss, refusing to moan about the discomfort and insisting on playing in the crucial game.
With his left wrist taped, Murray played the entire 80 minutes. He had a fantastic game, recording 50 tackles in Australia’s 22-10 triumph, which guaranteed the Kangaroos a place in the final on Sunday.
He will have surgery this week to treat the scapholunate damage that was discovered by post-game imaging.
Murray’s bravery and dedication were commended by Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga.
Meninga told The Sydney Morning Herald, “I know Cam hurt it at training, but we didn’t know the extent of it because he kept it quiet – he never complained and just got on with business.”
It’s not like it affected him; he still had an amazing game. It is regrettable that it occurred. Although our players’ well-being comes first, he felt capable of playing, so he took that decision.
He is the perfect example of the guys we are urging to be available for the international match.
“I am aware that he enjoys playing the game and wearing the Australian flag. That, in my opinion, is the very type of person you want wearing the Australian shirt.
Murray is anticipated to be replaced by Hudson Young, which could affect the bench selection and compel Meninga to think about bringing in a backup player.
Prior to this Sunday’s Pacific Championships final at CommBank Stadium, the Kangaroos will reassemble for camp.
