‘Lightning to strike twice…’: Sam Parkin shares Preston vs Sunderland score prediction

In a matchup between two teams currently at different ends of the standings, Sunderland will visit Preston North End on Wednesday night in the Championship.

Sunderland leads the Championship table with 29 points heading into Wednesday’s games, while Preston North End is in 21st place with 14.

So far, the seasons of the two teams have been remarkably different. However, in August, Sunderland suffered their first Carabao Cup loss under Regis Le Bris at the hands of Preston.

The Lilywhites, who are led by Paul Heckingbottom, a former Sunderland manager target, have only won one of their last five league games and most recently suffered a 3-1 loss to Bristol City.

At Loftus Road, Sunderland and QPR drew 0-0, breaking the Black Cats’ three-game winning streak.

Sam Parkin predicts the score for Preston North End vs. Sunderland.

Before Wednesday night’s match at Deepdale, EFL analyst Sam Parkin shared his score prediction on the Championship Check In podcast.

Additionally, he believes Preston will “frustrate” Sunderland once more, but not enough to win all three points.

“I’m going for lightning to strike twice,” Parkin declared. I refuse to go for the 0-0. To gain a point here, I’m going to go for Preston. I’ll aim for a 1-1.

“I believe they made a lot of attempts against Bristol City the other day. Bristol City was quite clinical, as I mentioned.

“However, Preston, I believe they will be competitive in this kind of game and perhaps want to frustrate Sunderland.”

Was Sam Parkin right to forecast QPR vs. Sunderland?

Prior to the game, Parkin accurately predicted a score of 0-0 for both Sunderland and QPR.

“It’s really difficult, because everything points towards a Sunderland win, but it’s got to stop [at some point],” he stated prior to that match.

Sunderland vs. Preston North End H2H

In August, Preston defeated Sunderland 2-0 in the Carabao Cup. Additionally, Sunderland defeated Preston 2-0 at the Stadium of Light in their Championship matchup last season, while Preston prevailed 2-1 in Deepdale.

A 20-year wait for a Sunderland victory at Deepdale was ended by that victory on New Year’s Day. Preston won six of the nine meetings between the two clubs during that time, while the Black Cats only won one.

Sky Sports will broadcast the game live starting at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
