Ex-national team boss ‘threw his hat into the ring’ for Hearts manager role as eyes turn to the Far-East

He has reportedly desired the position as head coach at Gorgie and has managed Hearts and Hibs players.

It has been reported that a former manager of the national team has offered himself as the next head coach of Hearts.

As they searched for a replacement for Steven Naismith, who was fired following a subpar start to the season, the Premiership team received a large number of applications. The period of Neil Critchley, who was appointed head coach, began with a thorough hiring process driven by analytics.

Early in his rule, he has made an impression, defeating Heidenheim with a strong performance and defeating Omonia in the Conference League. In the Premiership, Critchley has led Hearts to victories over St. Johnstone and St. Mirren as well as a draw with Hibs.

Australian media claim that former Socceroos manager Graham Arnold applied for the Hearts position. After six years as the Socceroos’ manager, he resigned in September. He has club experience with teams including Sydney FC and the Central Coast Mariners.

Following Lee Johnson’s dismissal in 2023, he was connected to the Hibs position. The club ultimately turned to the A-League for their next manager, Nick Montgomery. “Arnold threw his hat into the ring for Hearts job, but was knocked back,” according to journalist Sacha Pisani. He is also considering a position with Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan, which is in the Far East.

“I have to be honest, and I always am, I have struggled a little bit since the Asian Cup loss,” Arnold stated in reference to his departure from Australia. I genuinely believed that we would win when I went to that Asian Cup.

Out of all the players in this group, I do think I have the most. Someone else can enter and get more when I say that. The staff and I have taken all possible action.
