In Dublin, the All Blacks defeated Ireland 23–13 in one of their best games of 2024.
The All Blacks were having trouble finishing Test matches in the latter stages of the game not so long ago. However, Scott Robertson’s club has now lost two straight close games, which has increased their confidence going ahead.
As they enter the final two Test matches of 2024—against France in Paris and Italy in Turin—the Kiwis are in outstanding form and are currently three from three on their final Northern tour.
Ryan is pleased with how his team started the rematch in Dublin.
“Yes, it’s a fierce match, and I’m really proud of the way we began the Test match. They have a lot of respect for Ireland, have been together for a long time, and know their identity and game.” Ryan stated to Taylah Johnson and Sir John Kirwan on Sky Sports.
“There was a lot of urgency, and we stated at the beginning of the week that it would not be an excuse because we are strong and fit enough for this time of year; just get your mind in the right frame of mind.”
“I’m just so proud of the boys who came on again and performed so well.”
Against Ireland, Robertson’s team maintained their strong bench influence, greatly overcoming the All Blacks’ early bench difficulties in the 2024 Rugby Championship.
Ryan gives his bench players credit for their recent contributions to this All Blacks team.
“We have a little more experience now, Patrick Tuipulotu has been incredible, Ofa (Tu’ungafasi) off the bench has been an absolute champion, and we have young boys that have added some pop. I think it’s fair to say that at the beginning of the season, it wasn’t probably quite where we were at.”
Asafo (Aumua) was incredible tonight and yesterday night, and I can’t say enough about him. I am so proud of him.
With the rivalry between Rieko Ioane and recently retired Johnny Sexton still vivid in both teams’ memories, the Ireland versus. All Blacks contest featured an extra twist beyond the Test match itself.
Ryan, the assistant coach, claims that the choice to have Rieko Ioane lead the haka was “subtle.”
He did it really well, too, and it was a very proud moment for him. It was wonderful and delicate. It was fantastic; we spoke with the guys about its significance to them, making it truly unique.
Ryan thinks the two victories against England and Ireland have strengthened his team’s capacity to win close games going into next weekend’s meeting against France at the Stade de France.
“We found a way last week, and I believe it gave us a lot of confidence. It could have gone either way; winning can be anything in any test; you just need to win and enjoy the moment.”
Scooter (Scott Barrett) is doing a fantastic job of driving the players around the park. “I know it gave us a lot of confidence that we found a way, and then we just hit this week humming we were really clear and what we needed to do and how we wanted to play,” the statement reads.
