Brentford v AFC Bournemouth – Highlights & reaction

At Brentford, AFC Bournemouth’s three-game Premier League winning streak came to an end. The Cherries had earned seven points from their last three games, which included wins over Manchester City and Arsenal as well as a draw at Villa Park against Aston Villa.

The Cherries were a threat right away, but Marcos Senesi’s first attempt went over the crossbar. Evanilson then took advantage of a Brentford defence blunder and, with a brilliant fake, took the ball around the goalie to slot it into an empty net, giving the Cherries a 1-0 lead.

There was a lot of expectation in the goal. Before the Brentford player even realised it, he knew that the player would knock it back.

When Wissa responded for Brentford, the lead didn’t last long, and halftime rolled around.

However, Bournemouth had a corner a few minutes into the second half, and Justin Kluivert beat the Brentford keeper with a brilliantly executed set piece to smash one in from a few yards out to make it 2-1. The Cherries’ lead, however, was short-lived as Damsgaard scored to make it two goals apiece at the Gtech, and Wissa scored again to give Brentford the lead for the first time in the game. When referee Darren Bond blew for full time, both teams had opportunities to add to the tally, but that was the situation.

Following the match, Andoni Iraola, the head coach of AFC Bournemouth, told the Daily Echo

It’s difficult for us because, although I’m incredibly pleased with the performance, I believe that we were the superior team, particularly in the first half, but we were unable to close the gap.

“At halftime, you are up 1-1, and it’s likely that the second half had less rhythm.

“There have been many things, but the majority have been set plays and stop-and-go. The fact that we give up after the 2-1 is probably a crucial point. However, the game has been more or less what we anticipated, much like Brentford’s home games.

They penalised us there because you have to handle these circumstances on the kickoff and throw-ins.

“However, I believe that today’s performance is worthy of much more.”
