Tam McManus, a former Hibs player, believes that Malky Mackay, the team’s sporting director, should not be subject to criticism at the present.
With just one victory in 12 league games this season following their loss to St. Mirren on Saturday, the Hibees are in serious trouble at the bottom of the Premiership.
The Hibs administration made it clear on Monday that they will continue to support the rookie manager despite his inability to produce results, even if it appeared like David Gray’s career was in jeopardy following the 2-1 loss.
Before Hibs’ humiliating defeat to the Buddies, McManus told PLZ Soccer that Mackay and chief executive Ben Kensell should be feeling just as much pressure as Grey right now because they brought the club veteran on as manager in the summer.
Over the weekend, supporters turned on both Kensell and Mackay, stating unequivocally who they believe is to blame for Hibs’ current predicament.
McManus concurs that the club’s management, not David Grey, is the primary problem. He clarified why it is unjust to chastise Hibs’ sporting director Mackay, who joined the team in May, but refrained from condemning him.
Hibs athletic director Malky Mackay is defended by Tam McManus. “The club’s ownership has demonstrated over the last two years that they truly don’t know what they are doing,” McManus wrote in the Daily Record.
That’s the main idea. Grey isn’t the issue, in my opinion. The issues are much more profound. “The fact that the fans supported him following the game shows that they are clear on that point, which is uncommon for any manager in his position at the bottom of the league.
I don’t think that says much, though, because Hibs sang Franck Sauzee’s name in the final game before he was fired. However, that support for Grey reveals the opinions of the supporters. They think that rather than in the technical department, the issues are upstairs at the club. I will not argue with it.
“The issues are with Ben Kensell, the CEO, and Ian Gordon, the owner. Malky Mackay is just in the door, so I’m hesitant to put his name on that list. It seems unjust. Fans are also attacking him, and many of them didn’t want him there in the first place.
However, he has only recently arrived, and even if the sporting director was involved in the Grey hiring, it would be unfair to lump him in with the ongoing errors of the previous two years.
McManus on Hibs losing to St Mirren The Buddies outperformed Hibs, opening a seven-point gap over the Leith team in the league.
McManus believes Hibs played a game of two halves, but in the end, they didn’t put up enough effort to score any more points.
“I will not embellish what is taking place in the park,” he added. The game at St. Mirren was awful. “You waited for Hibs to take the initiative and rally the supporters, but it was quite the reverse.
The first half was a terrible performance, and Saints blew out of the traps. “The game was over, even though the second half was better.
Martin Boyle isn’t now experiencing it, but who knows if his penalty was successful? That may be clutching because the team’s lack of confidence is evident. However, don’t tell me that they are abandoning Grey or that they have given up.
“I have never been demoted or on a club that has thrown it in the trash. It’s just a retort from irate supporters. “Confidence is crucial, and it is currently at zero. Fans are criticising the players for their faults. Some people don’t want to attempt new things or have the ball.
When things aren’t going well, Easter Road may be a difficult place. I owned it back when Bobby Williamson was alive. “Gray’s situation is not good, and it’s difficult to notice the improvement. However, I sincerely hope he is given the chance to attempt to make this situation better.
