Five months after leaving Rangers, Borna Barisic is expected to quit Trabzonspor, the Daily Record reports.
According to the Scottish journal [17 November], which cited claims in the Turkish media, talks are in progress to mutually end Barisic’s contract with the team, allowing him to become a free agent and move somewhere in January.
Before joining Gers teammate John Lundstram in the Super Lig, 32-year-old Barisic made 236 appearances at Ibrox.
Since September, he has only played four minutes of football for Trabzon and has only started once in the league.
Five months after leaving Rangers, Borna Barisic will depart from the Turkish club.
After playing just 20 games in the Scottish Premiership the previous season, Barisic left Rangers at the conclusion of his contract, so he must have been looking forward to his change of scenery.
However, compared to Lundstram’s start in Trabzon, where he has made 11 Super Lig outings, the grass has undoubtedly not been greener.
Barisic, who recently turned 32 and is starting to see lucrative long-term deals at a premium, will be able to start a new chapter somewhere if his contract is quickly mutually terminated.
Jefte, who has been criticised at times for his defensive play, was one of the players brought in as reinforcements to take Barisic’s place. He seems stronger moving ahead.
Many of the Ibrox supporters will feel that the ship has sailed with their former Croatian star, but some may be intrigued by the prospect of an unexpected comeback.
