Rangers legend Barry Ferguson slams Michael Beale over “snakes” comment

Michael Beale has come under fire from Barry Ferguson for his remarks regarding his tenure as Rangers manager.

The English strategist claimed that “snakes” wanted to see him fail in a few of his previous roles when he spoke on Inside The Academy’s YouTube channel on November 11.

Ferguson, however, took offence at such remarks, calling Beale “silly” and telling him to own up to his managerial shortcomings.

“Let’s get one thing perfectly straight, Beale was entirely responsible for the decisions he made during his time in charge,” the former Gers captain wrote in a piece for the Daily Record [November 21].

It is just untrue for him to say that those in the club wanted him to fail.

It makes him look foolish, so I’m not sure what he was trying to accomplish by coming away with that kind of thing.

“Let’s face it, nobody was having a good time when he got his shot. He should just accept that things didn’t work out for him and move on.

When Gio van Bronckhorst was under strain and struggling to maintain control, keep in mind that this is a man who was ready to be spotted sitting in the director’s box.

Therefore, he might not be in the best position to begin discussing other people’s morals.

When he eventually took Gio’s position a few days later, it looked poorly on him because it didn’t sit well at the moment. That’s for Beale’s conscience, though.

Michael Beale’s remark about “snakes” did not sit well with Rangers icon Barry Ferguson.

Although Beale did not specifically mention Rangers in his statement, a “couple” does not leave much out for someone who has had three management stints in total.

To be fair, Beale coached 43 games at Ibrox, averaging 2.26 points per game during his most successful managerial tenure [Transfermarkt]. In contrast, he averaged 1.41 and 1.17 points per game for Sunderland and QPR, respectively.

However, given the scale of the clubs he has controlled, the 44-year-old would have been better off not saying that.

On November 20, Beale joined Al-Ettifaq as Steven Gerrard’s assistant, seemingly reversing course in his coaching career.

During his tenure as Rangers manager from 2018 to 2021, when the Light Blues won the Premiership without a loss, he was a crucial member of Gerrard’s backroom team.

While the Glasgow giants struggle under Philippe Clement, whom the club is reluctant to fire [Ludo Vandewalle of Het Nieuwsblad], the two will be hoping to replicate a similar degree of success in Damman.
