Despite reports that Philippe Clement was fired on Sunday, Rangers have not even called a board meeting, according to Jim White.
On November 24, rumours circulated on social media that the Belgian was about to be sent packing at Ibrox, but they were swiftly dispelled [Rangers Review].
White revealed that Clement will continue to manage Govan even though the team is currently third in the Scottish Premiership, behind Celtic and Aberdeen.
“No change at Rangers – despite club being a distant third in the SPFL,” he wrote on X.
“There is no board meeting, and Philippe Clement continues to operate.”
Rangers boardroom update following Clement’s dismissal
Following the enthusiasm that a new beginning would be in the works with Clement’s dismissal, this is the news that everyone was fearing.
It’s also discouraging to learn that a board meeting hasn’t even been called with any discussions regarding the management, and that a decision is obviously far from final.
Nothing less than three domestic victories would suffice, given they have Europa League matches against Nice on November 28 and then St Johnstone, Kilmarnock, and Ross County to come.
Malcolm Offord is set to take over as chairman of the Govan club shortly, and it appears that John Gilligan will soon be passing the torch at Ibrox [The Scottish Sun].
As they adjust to life at Rangers, they will have to make some important decisions right once because Patrick Stewart is also expected to become the new CEO.
It appears that Clement has benefited from the instability at the board level, but he will undoubtedly be on thin ice as Christmas approaches.
