There’s really no avoiding the subject. The Rangers are in complete disarray.
Performances and outcomes on the pitch are far from satisfactory. Amidst a large number of departures and a lack of activity to bring in new players, it feels completely lost off the pitch.
It is impossible to hold Philippe Clement entirely responsible for the depressing situation at Ibrox. To be honest, the Gers shouldn’t be 11 points behind Celtic before December has even arrived.
However, it would be quite unjust to imply that the Belgian technician is the only cause of their current predicament.
In fact, a string of poor managerial choices and terrible purchasing and selling choices are to blame for Rangers’ current situation.
Philippe Clement is making amends for previous Rangers boardroom missteps.
You could actually make a very strong case that Clement lost millions of dollars in the transfer market as a result of the bad choices made in the boardroom.
It is no secret that Clement was informed in the summer that player sales would be necessary to acquire money for reinforcements, but Rangers are in such a bad situation because of their previous passivity in that area.
Even this summer, when there would have been chances to raise some cash, players like Borna Barisic and John Lundstram were released.
However, if you look back farther, it is incomprehensible that players like Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos were permitted to depart for free (BBC Sport) when their stock would have once generated eight-figure fees.
Even now, you see someone like James Tavernier, a good servant to the club who is the focus of much discussion about his current role and the opportunity they have had to profit much from his contributions in the past.
The fact that Rangers’ fiercest opponents are so skilled at spotting talent to sell for a high price and that Celtic has a successful business model is what really irritates me.
Although some of Rangers’ summer hiring clearly alluded to attempting to take a similar long-term route, their poor performance in that area in the past is finally showing.
The fact is that Clement’s job may be lost as a result of his bad boardroom management. The current situation is regrettable.
