£150,000 Bhoy on the brink

It has been reported that Brendan Rodgers plans to use the January transfer window to find a third striker.

Since the beginning of the season, the Celtic manager has alternated between Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah; however, it has been rumoured that he is looking to expand his roster of young forwards.

In midweek’s UEFA Youth League match, the Hoops Under-19s defeated their Club Brugge counterparts thanks to a goal from Daniel Cummings, who has been making headlines and scoring goals.

Although it was the 18-year-old shooter’s fifth goal in the same number of tournament games, Rodgers might think it is too early in the child’s career to start him in the starting lineup.

However, the Parkhead manager may target 21-year-old Johnny Kenny, whose loan at Shamrock Rovers is set to expire at the end of next month.

During his second temporary move, the dynamic raider has scored 18 goals for the League of Ireland team. He scored another goal yesterday night in the Austrian capital’s 1-1 Europa Conference League match with Rapid Vienna.

In January 2022, Kenny moved from Sligo Rovers to Glasgow’s east end for £150,000, and he has yet to make his competitive first-team debut.

Before rejoining Rovers in his own country, he played on loan at Queen’s Park for a while. He may now be about to make his eagerly anticipated debut for the first team.

Rodgers had first targeted Rocco Vata for the third striker position, but in the summer, the son of former Celt Rudi was enticed to join Watford, a team in the second division.

The young player has not scored in seven games with the Championship team and was not included in the squad for the 1-0 victory over Bristol City in the middle of the week.
