Bayern Munich identify top candidates to replace Alphonso Davies

If Alphonso Davies departs Bavaria on a free transfer in the summer, Bayern Munich has two defenders at the top of their list to take his position.

With the winter transfer window just over a month away, many in Germany and throughout Europe are talking about Alphonso Davies’ future at Bayern Munich. Less than eight months remain on the Canadian’s contract.

In the event that Alphonso Davies leaves Bayern on a free transfer next summer, the names of David Raum of RB Leipzig and Theo Hernández of AC Milan are being explored internally as possible replacements.

The negotiations between Davies and Bayern to extend their contract have been stalled for a while. Wages demanded by the left-back’s camp have been the topic of contention between the two parties. Bayern might lose the full-back for nothing in the summer if an agreement isn’t reached quickly. If no contract renewal is agreed by January, the player will be free to negotiate with other clubs.

In the meanwhile, in case the Canadian leaves, Bayern has already started scouting the left-back market for a possible addition next summer.

Bayern is still looking to sign Hernández, Theo

SportBild (via @iMiaSanMia) claims that Theo Hernández, a current AC Milan player, is the most prominent name on Bayern’s list of left-back contenders. Max Eberl, the sporting director, has been interested in signing the youngster since last summer and is certain of his abilities.

Given that the French international’s contract with the Rossoneri expires in 2026, it is expected that he will be reasonably priced when he becomes available next summer. His transfer value is anticipated to be approximately €60 million, which is a substantial decrease from the €100 million Milan estimated last summer.

The 27-year-old, who is considered to be among the world’s top full-backs, would be the greatest substitute Bayern could find for Alphonso Davies. It remains to be seen, though, if the team would be prepared to pay such a high price for the fullback given that they already have plans to spend around €100 million on Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern is also keeping an eye on David Raum.

According to SportBild, FC Bayern is also considering David Raum of RB Leipzig. Max Eberl, the director of Bayern Sporting, has a good relationship with the player from their time together in Leipzig, which might make this trade possible. The German international, who is 26 years old, could definitely see himself moving to Munich. Max Eberl and Oliver Mintzlaff, the current Leipzig Sporting Director, have a strained relationship that might make this transfer difficult to implement.

With 89 games played thus far with RB Leipzig, the left-back has been a vital member of Marco Rose’s squad. Raum has a deal with Leipzig through 2027.

In the upcoming months, Bayern will have more clarity regarding the left-back position. Given the intense interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United, Davies might be moving in the summer.
