According to sources who spoke to Football Insider, Celtic’s attempt to pursue Christian Eriksen, a midfielder for Manchester United, has run into financial difficulties.
In an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior writer Pete O’Rourke disclosed that Eriksen’s salary might be a “significant barrier.”
The 32-year-old’s £150,000 weekly contract with the 20-time winners is causing the Scottish powerhouses to struggle.
According to reliable sources who spoke to Football Insider, Celtic won’t receive “anywhere near” the salary he is presently receiving, which may prevent a deal from being reached in January.
Adding an experienced European football player to his squad would help Brendan Rodgers’ efforts to win the Champions League.
Eriksen, who has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, has continued to be a reliable member of the United team.
Christian Eriksen may have to wait until the summer for Celtic.
After this season, Eriksen’s contract at Old Trafford expires, allowing him to join another team on a free transfer.
In the summer, when additional clubs may become available to him, the Denmark international may be tempted to sit and wait in an attempt to investigate his free choices.
Eriksen has continued to demonstrate his ability to perform on the pitch this season, scoring four goals and dishing out three assists for the 20-time champions.
According to earlier reports by Fabrizio Romano, Eriksen and United are anticipated to part ways at the end of the current campaign.
Eriksen has made 86 appearances for the Premier League powerhouses since joining them on a free transfer in 2022.
