Rangers are under a legal obligation to remain silent regarding the Connor Barron tribunal with Aberdeen, as revealed by Scott Burns.
The Scottish Express journalist shared on his personal X account [6 December] that the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) is also withholding comment on the matter for now. The SPFL’s rules surrounding domestic transfers of Under-23 players mean a decision on the midfielder’s situation is expected later this month.
Barron’s move from Pittodrie to Ibrox in the summer, under freedom-of-contract regulations, entitles Aberdeen to compensation since he is a product of their youth academy and made the switch at 21 years old.
Connor Barron Tribunal a Challenge for Rangers
Rangers should resolve the ongoing dispute with Aberdeen swiftly, as it risks becoming a distraction from their other priorities.
Barron has proven to be an outstanding addition to Philippe Clement’s squad, featuring in 23 matches across all competitions this season. Given his significant impact, the Ibrox leadership should consider meeting Aberdeen’s compensation demands if they are reasonable.
Despite recent recruitment challenges, Barron has been a standout signing for Rangers, highlighted by his performance in the 1-0 victory over Hearts on 10 November.
Clement’s start at Ibrox has been far from ideal, with the Light Blues trailing Celtic in the Premiership standings. However, the Belgian manager has started to find success, with Barron and Nicolas Raskin forming a strong midfield partnership.
The ongoing tribunal risks tarnishing Rangers’ reputation, and the club hierarchy must aim for a resolution to protect the Glaswegian side’s image and move forward effectively.
