Kris Boyd Urges Rangers to Secure John Souttar’s Future Immediately
Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has called on the club to finalize a new contract for defender John Souttar without delay. Manager Philippe Clement has confirmed that negotiations are ongoing and an offer is on the table, but no further progress has been reported.
Souttar’s current deal runs for another 18 months, but Boyd believes securing his services is crucial for the club’s rebuilding efforts. Writing in The Scottish Sun, Boyd stated:
> “He’s got 18 months left on his current deal and this should be sorted as a matter of urgency. Souttar is now that important to Rangers. I don’t really get this ‘on the table’ talk from Clement. Just get the deal done.
> “Souttar is a huge player for Rangers. He’s been outstanding and is growing every week. He ticks every box for Gers in terms of what Clement needs going forward. At 28, he is reaching his peak, he’s Scottish, and he understands the demands at Ibrox. Souttar is the ideal man to build the defence around.”
Souttar Key to Rangers’ Long-Term Vision
The 28-year-old defender has become a vital figure at Ibrox amid a challenging season for the club. Boyd emphasized that Souttar’s leadership qualities and understanding of the club’s culture make him indispensable to Rangers’ future plans.
With the club needing a clear long-term strategy to regain success, Boyd argues that locking down Souttar should be a priority. Any delay in securing his future could have serious consequences for Rangers, both on and off the pitch.
While Clement’s approach to the negotiations appears relaxed, Boyd insists that the club must act decisively to retain one of their top players. Failure to do so could hinder Rangers’ ability to rebuild and compete effectively in the Scottish Premiership.
