After displaying violent behaviour during Norwich City’s 3-0 loss to QPR on Saturday, Kenny McLean was given another four-game suspension.
The Canaries midfielder was charged after he and Hoops winger Kieran Morgan got into a fight in the 24th minute of play, which sent the teenager to the ground.
Since this was his second suspension of such magnitude, the FA upgraded the three-game punishment that was deemed appropriate for the crime by one more game.
The city has attempted, but failed, to appeal the verdict.
McLean will miss his team’s games against Portsmouth tonight, Burnley at home on Sunday, Sunderland the weekend after, and Millwall at Carrow Road on Boxing Day.
On Sunday, December 29, when Rangers travel to Norfolk in an attempt to duplicate their triumph at home, he will be available to return for the rematch.
Due to a late red card in the 3-3 draw with Middlesbrough in October, the Scot will have already missed eight games this season due to suspension. That was also prolonged, this time for his response during the discussion with the referee.
“An independent Regulatory Commission has suspended Norwich City’s Kenny McLean for four matches following violent conduct in their EFL Championship match against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, December 7,” the FA announced in an official statement regarding McLean’s most recent punishment.
“The FA later claimed that the midfielder’s actions in the 24th minute of the game constituted aggressive conduct, even though the match officials were not present to see them. The behaviour was captured on camera.
“Kenny McLean refuted this accusation against him and argued that, if proven, the automatic penalty is disproportionate. After a hearing, the independent Regulatory Commission declared it to be true and imposed his sentence. In due time, its written justifications will be released.
“The sanction is four matches rather than three as it is Kenny McLean’s second dismissal this season.”
