The promotion back to the Championship is Huddersfield Town’s sole objective for this season.
The Terriers had a disastrous 2023–24 season, finishing second-bottom in the second division with 45 points, forcing them to play in League One for the first time in more than ten years.
This season, Michael Duff was hired as manager, and his team is vying for a spot at the bottom of the table. It won’t be easy to get promoted because teams like Wycombe Wanderers, Wrexham, and Birmingham City are all vying for the two automatic spots, while Stockport County is now in fourth position in the standings.
Despite a somewhat sluggish start to the season, the Terriers have clearly found their footing as they have won their last four games and gone nine league games without a loss.
After Narcis Pelach’s recent remarks, Huddersfield supporters will be wishing for a return to the Championship and will reflect on the previous season with sadness.
If the Terriers had been able to sign a star who has dominated the Championship this season, maybe things would have turned out differently.
At Huddersfield, Narcis Pelach admits he attempted to sign Borja Sainz.
In addition to serving as interim manager twice in the Championship, the current Stoke City manager was a coach at Huddersfield for less than three years.
The Spaniard stated that he wants Norwich City player Borja Sainz at Huddersfield in a recent interview with Pink Un.
“I know Borja very well, of course: Spanish and Spanish,” he remarked, referring to the excellent football player. As the coach in charge of him, I was accountable for his performances in Norwich. I am the coach with the most knowledge on Borja Sainz.
We attempted to reach an agreement because I also wanted him in Huddersfield. However, we ultimately failed, and we arrived in Norwich. We love each other very much, and he’s a fantastic player and person.”
Sadly for the Terriers, Sainz chose to sign with Norwich rather than move to Huddersfield, and he is currently dominating the Championship.
So far, Borja Sainz’s tenure at Norwich City
Huddersfield will question whether things would have turned out differently for them if they had signed Sainz when Pelach was still with the team. Sainz has been perhaps the greatest player in the Championship this season.
The 23-year-old made an impression in his debut season with the Canaries last season, but he has elevated his game to a new level in the 2024–2025 campaign.
Sainz was compelled to step up his game when Norwich lost a few pretty important players in the summer, and it’s easy to say he has done just that.
With a staggering 15 goals and two assists so far this season, he has started all 19 of Norwich’s Championship games. Considering that he is not a natural striker, the fact that he has already recorded two hat-tricks this season is astounding.
Norwich might have had serious problems this season without Sainz, and to be honest, Huddersfield was begging for a player of his kind back when they were struggling at the bottom of the Championship.
The Terriers might still be playing Championship football today if they had signed Sainz while Pelach was the team’s coach, which would be painful following Pelach’s revelation.
