Dele Alli can finally fulfil his Rangers prophecy from Ally McCoist as career lifeline emerges after Everton exit

The free agent is seeking a fresh start to reignite his career.

Dele Alli, now a free agent, has parted ways with Everton as he looks to revive his footballing journey away from Goodison Park. A potential move to Rangers could intrigue one former Ibrox icon, Ally McCoist, who has previously advocated for the England international’s transfer to the Scottish Premiership.

The 28-year-old has been without a club since June but has continued training with Everton to maintain his fitness after a difficult stint on Merseyside. His last competitive match was during a turbulent loan spell at Besiktas in February 2023. Currently, Serie A club Como has offered Alli an opportunity to train under Cesc Fabregas and earn a contract. While this lifeline could be significant, Alli remains in search of a long-term home as he ambitiously targets a place in Thomas Tuchel’s 2026 World Cup plans.

Back in 2022, during Alli’s struggles for game time at Everton prior to his move to Turkey, McCoist suggested a move to Scotland. On talkSPORT, McCoist floated the idea to a caller, saying, “You’d take Dele Alli at Celtic, wouldn’t you? Because I’d take him at Rangers.” However, the Celtic fan dismissed the idea, stating, “Absolutely not, Ally. Dele Alli’s done nothing in four years. He wouldn’t even come close to the Celtic midfield.”

Undeterred, McCoist proposed a pragmatic approach: “I get your point, but I’d only consider it if he was open to a pay-as-you-play deal. The issue is these players earn so much money now, and I understand why they hesitate to take a pay cut.”

With Alli training in the scenic surroundings of Lake Como, the question remains: can he convince Fabregas and secure a deal in Italy, or could McCoist’s long-suggested “pay-as-you-play” option finally materialize?
