Philippe Clement has addressed a flu outbreak within the Rangers squad but reassured fans that it won’t sideline any players for the upcoming clash with Dundee. Despite the illness affecting the team during training following last weekend’s Premier Sports Cup Final, the manager confirmed that everyone remains available for selection.
This season, Rangers have faced significant injury challenges, and a minor setback like a flu bug might have raised concerns. However, Clement has provided positive news, noting there are no fresh injuries after the physically demanding cup final, which stretched into extra time and penalties.
“We have some flu going around the building, but don’t expect anyone to miss out,” Clement stated. “No new injuries from the last game.”
One player who could make his return is Oscar Cortes, sidelined since September, coincidentally against Dundee. While included in the squad, Clement hinted that Cortes might only feature from the bench. “Oscar Cortes will be in the squad,” he said. “We’ll consider giving him minutes, but he’s not ready to start yet.”
Clement could also experiment with Dujon Sterling in a new role. With John Souttar and Neraysho Kasanwirjo both unavailable due to injuries, the Light Blues are short on center-back options. Sterling, often utilized as a right-back, might be deployed in central defense.
The idea of using Sterling in this position dates back to former manager Michael Beale, who identified him as a potential center-back during scouting but opted for a more versatile role. This weekend could provide Clement with the perfect opportunity to test him in the heart of the defense.
