‘Proud’ Dundee manager reacts to potentially ‘offside’ goal in defeat to Rangers at Ibrox

Tony Docherty acknowledges that he believed Vaclav Cerny’s game-winning goal in Rangers’ triumph over Dundee in the Scottish Premiership might have been offside.

Speaking following the team’s 1-0 loss to Rangers, the Dundee manager stated that he is quite “proud” of his team’s resolute effort at Ibrox.

Rangers wasted numerous chances to make the win much easier, but Dundee was an irritating presence at Ibrox the entire time.

Speaking at full time, Tony Docherty evaluated the Rangers goal and acknowledged that, in spite of his first sense that Vaclav Cerny was offside, the VAR made their call.

On Rangers’ goal against Dundee, Tony Docherty
Docherty told Sky Sports, “I was really proud of that level of performance I got from the players.”

I assumed that the Rangers, who had won 6-0 at home and 3-0 away from home in their previous two league games, were a very strong squad going into this match.

“I thought our defensive organisation was excellent in the first half, and we worked hard on it during the break.”

Rangers were only able to strike the bar from a free kick when we arrived at 0-0.

“I think we gave Rangers a good game in the second half when I challenged the guys to be a little braver in possession.

“The fact that we lost the goal truly disappoints me.

I haven’t seen it return. Perhaps it was offside, I thought. I’m not sure.

“They have clearly examined it, and it is clearly in agreement with the VAR ruling.

“I think we were ahead at that moment, so I’m dissatisfied with that, you know.

“I think we had a really good performance overall, but we should have had a shot at goal and it broke and came on to us.”

“I was really proud of the level of performance that each individual player put in.”

Rangers vs. Dundee: The manager is “proud” of the players
Following the loss against Rangers, Tony Docherty has also stated that his Dundee team is “disappointed” to be leaving Ibrox empty-handed.

Following Aberdeen’s loss to Hibs at Pittodrie, Rangers’ narrow victory over Dundee has moved the Ibrox team up to second in the Scottish Premiership standings.

Docherty has praised the Dens Park team for their performance in Glasgow and believes his Dundee club deserves a great deal of credit for keeping Rangers at bay.

“The dressing room is a disappointment,” Docherty remarked.

That is significant, in my opinion. No one enjoys being beaten, even with that level of performance.

“I have to be happy of the players for coming to Ibrox and playing at that level against a very good Rangers team, especially given the recent form Rangers have been in against Tottenham and in the Cup Final.

I told them that. Although I want to focus on the positives going into the next game, I also want them to be unhappy that we lost.
