‘For the record’ – Ally McCoist issues verdict on Elon Musk buying Rangers after what happened

Ally McCoist has revealed he would welcome Elon Musk as the owner of Rangers for a single season, following recent speculation linking the billionaire to Liverpool.

Reports suggest that Tesla and X owner Elon Musk’s father, Errol Musk, did not dismiss rumors of his son’s interest in acquiring the Anfield club. While Hugh MacDonald has ruled out the idea of a wealthy benefactor taking control of Liverpool, the club is reportedly open to new investment opportunities.

Speaking about Musk’s rumored interest in Liverpool, McCoist shared on talkSPORT, as quoted by the Scottish Sun: “Just for the record, I’d take him at Rangers for a season, OK? It is a shambles, really. It cannot be a story.”

Rangers Fans Likely Opposed to Musk’s Involvement

While McCoist’s comment was made in jest, most Rangers supporters would probably be against Musk owning the club, considering his controversial track record post-acquisition of Twitter.

Since purchasing the platform, Musk has made sweeping changes, including mass layoffs, altering content moderation policies, and leveraging Twitter for his political agendas. These moves have polarized opinions and eroded trust among users and advertisers alike.

Musk’s political leanings could also create friction among Rangers’ fanbase, which comprises a broad spectrum of views. Many supporters would be wary of the club becoming a vehicle for political messaging rather than remaining a unifying football institution.

Additionally, Musk’s lack of experience or knowledge in football would be a major concern. Running a football club demands more than financial acumen—it requires an understanding of the cultural and emotional ties that bind fans to their team. Musk’s corporate-centric approach might alienate supporters who cherish the traditions and community spirit of the Ibrox club.

While Musk’s ownership could bring potential financial advantages, it risks destabilizing the club’s identity and harmony among fans. Rangers supporters are likely to recognize these risks and resist any move that could jeopardize the essence of their beloved team.
