Rangers could receive a £3.5 million windfall if Malik Tillman returns to Bayern Munich, as reported by The Herald.
The outlet revealed (11 January) that the Gers secured a 10% sell-on clause when they negotiated with Bayern after opting not to exercise their option to buy the former Ibrox loanee.
Bayern have already paid Rangers £1.2 million following Tillman’s transfer to PSV Eindhoven, which included a £35 million buy-back clause.
In an interview with Eindhovens Dagblad (10 January), Tillman expressed his desire to return to the Allianz Arena, a move that could see Rangers pocket a significant fee.
Rangers Positioned for a Financial Boost
The Scottish club showed foresight by including the clause after Bayern backed out of a permanent deal. While Tillman has performed well at PSV, it remains uncertain whether the German giants will exercise their buy-back option in the near future.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a productive loan spell at Rangers during the 2022/23 season, netting 10 goals and providing four assists in the Premiership. Since then, the Gers have bolstered their attack with players like Vaclav Cerny, Nedim Bajrami, and Ianis Hagi.
Cerny has been a standout performer this season, though his loan from Wolfsburg ends in the summer. Meanwhile, Hagi’s recent resurgence has delighted fans after a challenging spell.
With the January transfer window underway, Rangers could use the potential Tillman windfall to strengthen their squad, especially given the need for defensive reinforcements following injuries. Manager Patrick Stewart faces critical decisions, including whether to prioritize signing a center-back to address their defensive concerns.
