Kaide Gordon returns to Liverpool after underwhelming Norwich loan spell
Liverpool have recalled Kaide Gordon from his loan stint with Norwich City after the winger failed to make a significant impact during his time at Carrow Road. Gordon, who joined the Canaries last summer, made just ten appearances and logged 181 minutes of playing time in the Championship, scoring a single goal.
The 20-year-old’s lack of game time prompted the decision, reached mutually by both clubs, to bring him back to Anfield. His last outing for Norwich came in a late cameo against Coventry City on New Year’s Day, which ended in a dramatic defeat for the Canaries.
Disappointing loan spell for Gordon
Hopes were high for Gordon to shine in the Championship, given his potential and his pedigree as a loanee from one of the Premier League’s top clubs. However, he struggled to establish himself, making just one start in a 2-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday in November.
Most of his appearances came from the bench, with his lone goal coming during Norwich’s 4-0 victory over Hull City early in his loan spell. After that, opportunities dwindled, leaving Gordon unable to make the desired impact.
Norwich City fan pundit Zeke Downes reflected on Gordon’s departure, noting that it wasn’t surprising given his limited contribution. “Kaide Gordon returning to Liverpool was inevitable,” Downes said. “He wasn’t getting enough minutes or influencing games. It’s unfortunate because he showed glimpses of passion, especially against Coventry, but he didn’t seem ready for this level.”
Norwich look to strengthen in January
With Norwich City still chasing a top-six finish, the club has little room for underperforming players and has already started addressing the situation. The arrival of Aston Villa winger Lewis Dobbin on loan has bolstered their options in attack.
Downes remains optimistic about further reinforcements: “It’s a shame about Gordon, but it’s the right move for everyone. Hopefully, we can secure another Premier League loan who fits the team’s needs better.”
As Norwich continue their push for a playoff spot, they’ll aim to move on from Gordon’s stint and focus on players who can contribute more effectively to their promotion ambitions.
