Latest Updates on Sunderland’s Pursuit of £12.6m-Rated Striker Matija Frigan

Sunderland have reportedly reached a “personal agreement” with KVC Westerlo striker Matija Frigan, as speculation intensifies over a potential January move.

Reports earlier this week linked Sunderland with Frigan, as the club looks to bolster their attack for a push toward promotion. According to European outlet Het Nieuwsblad, the Black Cats have already agreed personal terms with the Croatian forward. The deal is expected to be a loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Frigan, who joined Westerlo in 2023 and is contracted until 2028, has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 22 appearances this season. The 20-year-old is valued at £12.6 million, and Het Nieuwsblad suggests that if Sunderland secure promotion to the Premier League, owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus will need to pay a fee in that range.

Reports also indicate that Frigan is open to leaving Westerlo, as the move would allow him to trade a relegation fight for a chance to compete for Premier League football. Westerlo are reportedly willing to let the striker depart this month. Despite his decent goal-scoring record, the Belgian club is said to be unconvinced by his performances and is looking to raise funds for their own transfer plans during the January window.
