Leeds United are accustomed to quick turnarounds, with their attention now fully on Wednesday’s match against Norwich City, following their 3-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.
Just 72 hours separate the two fixtures at Elland Road, where Leeds reclaimed top spot in the Championship with the 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday, thanks to goals from Manor Solomon, Largie Ramazani, and Ao Tanaka.
Although Danny Rohl’s side caused some moments of concern, Leeds ultimately secured the win, adding a flourish with late goals from Ramazani and Tanaka.
The team played without Pascal Struijk and Patrick Bamford, while Max Wober, Junior Firpo, and Ilia Gruev were back on the bench after injury. However, another Leeds player might have sustained an injury.
Daniel Farke provided an update on Brenden Aaronson following the victory. Aaronson didn’t have his best performance on Sunday, despite being involved in the first goal. While he was energetic as usual, he struggled with holding onto the ball at times.
Farke revealed that Aaronson picked up a “sore” ankle knock in the first half. Though he played through the pain until the 90th minute before being substituted by Josuha Guilavogui, the pain intensified during the match. Farke stated Aaronson would be assessed ahead of the Norwich game, but hoped the injury wasn’t too serious, emphasizing that Aaronson is usually resilient.
Despite facing criticism for his form this season, Aaronson’s availability has been remarkable. Farke has consistently rotated his wingers, often bringing in Mateo Joseph for Joel Piroe, but Aaronson, the £25m signing, has started 25 consecutive league matches.
He’s been one of Leeds’ most consistent players, playing the most minutes among outfield players this season, behind only Joe Rodon.
Though Aaronson has faced criticism for his lack of direct contributions, his ability to link midfield and attack has been invaluable, with Stuart Dallas praising his transition play. If Leeds are to secure promotion, keeping Aaronson fit will be crucial.
