Sitting nicely at the top of the Championship table are Leeds United after their 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday afternoon as emotions ran high during the Yorkshire derby.
A comfortable-enough win saw Manor Solomon open the scoring after just three minutes. Largie Ramazani, a substitute, scored Leeds’ second goal after an additional 85 minutes of play.
Ao Tanaka used his technical skill and footballing acumen to backheel the ball into the net to complete the victory after Ramazani’s fantastic cameo saw him volley an attempt at goal for Leeds’ third.
Leeds recorded their 17th clean sheet, which will have been a relief to Illan Meslier, and their 16th league victory of the season in their 27th game. But for Wednesday captain Barry Bannan, the news was less than ideal.
Brenden Aaronson of Leeds United has angered Barry Bannan.
Leeds tried to keep the backdoor closed while chasing a second goal in the second half. Brenden Aaronson, the livewire, went over in the penalty area while futilely attempting to make things happen.
Aaronson was sprawled in the box after Michael Ihiekwe’s shoulder charge, which the referee waved away. However, Wednesday captain Bannan took offence, believing Aaronson had jumped.
“Angry Barry Bannon angrily urges Aaronson to get up after brutal shoulder-to-shoulder challenge,” according to Graham Smyth of the YEP. I doubt Aaronson had any influence at all over his final destination.
Brenden Aaronson does not perform well in Sunday’s Leeds victory.
Aaronson has the lowest FotMob rating out of the 11 players who started for Leeds. Nevertheless, he received a respectable 6.9, ranking higher than any other Sheffield Wednesday player.
Brenden Aaronson’s Leeds vs. Sheff Wednesday stats:
With 90 minutes played and a 6.9 FotMob rating, the Leeds starting player with the lowest rating
One touch in the opposing box, two successful dribbles, 38 touches, 24 completed passes, and four misplaced (86%) passes
Six duels lost, five won. Three fouls and two infractions were committed.
Even if Aaronson performs well in some games, such as the victory over Derby County, he still remains the team’s weak link. He will, nevertheless, continue to start as long as Leeds is cautious during the January transfer window.
