According to BILD, Hannover 96 will not activate the £1 million purchase clause for Rabbi Matondo of Rangers if they are not promoted to the Bundesliga.
According to the German newspaper’s website [31 January], the German club may choose to enforce this contract based on the player’s league standing and performance.
It is believed that Hannover would not be able to afford the permanent contract, which would include his salary and bonuses, if they were not promoted this season.
Will the Rabbi Matondo Rangers make a comeback?
Since moving to Ibrox in July 2022, Matondo has played just 11 games more than games lost due to injury, making his stint in Glasgow completely hampered by injuries [Transfermarkt].
When his loan move to Hannover was revealed, most fans were quite happy to see him go, although he might return because his permanent departure depends on Hannover earning promotion.
After 19 games, the German team is in fifth place in the Bundesliga 2, one point off of the play-off spots and three points behind Hamburg, the league leaders.
Matondo’s time in the treatment room is simply too much to bear, despite the fact that he has created some very memorable moments for the Light Blues, including his incredible goal against Celtic last season.
After spending up to £3 million on his signing in 2022 [Rangers News], the hierarchy will undoubtedly regret this acquisition, and it would be a miracle if the Gers could make any money off of his departure.
The Welshman is a gifted player, but it will be difficult for him to convince managers and fans of this when he is unable to stay healthy for an extended period of time.
It is hoped that everyone will gain from his transfer to Hannover and that the Gers manager will be able to sell him in the summer.
