Barry Ferguson Thrilled with Rangers’ Pre-Contract Signing of Lyall Cameron

Barry Ferguson has expressed his delight after Rangers secured the signing of Lyall Cameron on a pre-contract agreement. The Gers officially announced on Monday (3 February) that the 22-year-old midfielder will join from Dundee in the summer.

Cameron had attracted interest from several Scottish Premiership clubs, making his move to Ibrox a significant win for the Light Blues—a development that has left Ferguson thrilled.

Speaking to GoRadio (3 February), Ferguson said:

“I’m absolutely delighted. He’s a player we’ve discussed numerous times. Last season, Lyall and Luke McCowan—who joined Celtic in the summer—were real standouts. Cameron has maintained that form, and I believe this is a fantastic piece of business for Rangers.”

“I’ve watched him play plenty, and there’s no doubt in my mind he’s good enough for a club like Rangers. At 22, his best years are still ahead of him, and it’s great to see the club focusing on talented, homegrown players from within the league. He definitely fits that profile, and I’m excited to see him join in the summer.”

Ferguson also hinted at the possibility of an earlier move, adding:

“Things can change quickly—he might even arrive before the window closes if Rangers can strike a deal. But regardless, I’m absolutely delighted we’ve secured him because I think he’ll become a key player for us.”

Cameron’s Impressive Season Highlights Rangers’ Smart Move

Securing the Scotland Under-21 international is a positive step for Rangers, especially given the competition for his signature. This season, Cameron has contributed five goals and four assists in the Scottish Premiership, featuring in 22 matches for Dundee.

His impressive output, combined with his homegrown status, makes him an exciting prospect for the Light Blues. This signing aligns with the ambitions set by Ibrox chief Patrick Stewart, reflecting the club’s focus on nurturing domestic talent.

While there’s some frustration that Cameron won’t join until the summer, there’s still a chance Rangers could negotiate an earlier arrival before the transfer window closes. Either way, fans will be eager to see how he continues to develop before officially making the move to Govan in six months.
