Sunderland on the Brink of Signing Liverpool Forward Jayden Danns

Sunderland are closing in on the loan signing of Liverpool’s promising young forward Jayden Danns, according to Sky Sports. The Black Cats have reportedly secured the approval of former manager Roy Keane for their choice, adding extra weight to the move.

Sunderland’s January Transfer Update

It’s been a mixed January transfer window for Sunderland as they push for a Championship promotion spot. The standout deal so far has been the loan signing of Roma midfielder Enzo Le Fée, a move that will become permanent if Sunderland earn promotion to the Premier League for the 2025/26 season. This signing was largely influenced by head coach Régis Le Bris, who previously worked with Le Fée at Lorient and convinced him to swap Rome for the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland also made Wilson Isidor’s transfer permanent after his initial loan from Zenit St. Petersburg. However, their search for an additional striker faced setbacks, particularly after missing out on Leicester City’s Tom Cannon, who was recalled from Stoke City and later joined Sheffield United—along with Sunderland target Ben Brereton Díaz.

Le Bris has been vocal about the team’s need for reinforcements up front, stating:

“We need good quality, that is very important. It’s clear that our forward positions have been our weakest area. It’s a matter of numbers—without new signings, injuries could leave us exposed without strong bench options.”

Jayden Danns Set to Join the Black Cats

Now, Sunderland appear to have found their man. Sky Sports reports that Liverpool’s Jayden Danns is set to join on loan for the remainder of the season. The teenage forward has shown promise in his limited appearances for Liverpool, notably scoring in an FA Cup victory over Accrington Stanley and grabbing headlines last season with a brace in the Carabao Cup—performances that caught the attention of Roy Keane.

Keane praised Danns’ instinctive play, saying:

“I was probably more impressed with his third goal than his first. His reaction was outstanding—when the shot came in, he was already on the move while the defenders stood still. That’s pure instinct, and he made it look easy.”

Described as a “pacey” and “well-rounded” attacker capable of both scoring and creating chances, Danns could provide the spark Sunderland need to reignite their promotion push in the final stretch of the season.
