Leeds United Defender Jeremiah Chilokoa-Mullen Joins Dunfermline Athletic on Free Transfer
Leeds United’s young defender Jeremiah Chilokoa-Mullen has signed with Dunfermline Athletic on a free transfer, committing to the Scottish Championship side until the end of the season. The 20-year-old has penned a six-month deal, which includes an option to extend his stay beyond the current campaign.
According to Sky Sports News (3 February), the agreement also features a sell-on clause despite no initial transfer fee being involved.
Leeds Confirm Chilokoa-Mullen’s Departure
Chilokoa-Mullen’s move north of the border comes as no surprise, with Scottish clubs showing interest in the talented centre-back during the winter transfer window. The Scotland U21 international previously had a loan spell at Inverness Caledonian Thistle last January, which was cut short due to a back injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
Following his recovery, he returned to Elland Road, making 13 appearances for Leeds’ academy side this season. However, the promising defender has now opted for a permanent switch from LS11 in pursuit of regular first-team football.
A Logical Move for the Young Defender
Leeds fans are unlikely to fault Chilokoa-Mullen for making the move, as breaking into Daniel Farke’s first team was always going to be challenging given the depth and quality of the current squad. With the Whites pushing for Premier League promotion, opportunities for academy players have been limited.
Chilokoa-Mullen’s decision to seek senior minutes elsewhere is a sensible step in his development, and his move to Dunfermline could prove crucial in gaining the experience needed to advance his career.
