Rangers to Host Queen’s Park in Scottish Cup Fifth Round
Rangers are preparing to welcome Championship side Queen’s Park to Ibrox for their Scottish Cup fifth-round tie. This fixture marks the revival of the original Glasgow Derby, as two of Scotland’s oldest clubs—Rangers (founded in 1872) and Queen’s Park (1867)—face off once again.
Despite their long histories, the two clubs have experienced vastly different fortunes over the past 150 years. Their last meeting at Ibrox dates back to February 2013, when they clashed in the old Scottish Third Division. Now, as Queen’s Park return to Govan, a few familiar faces will be making the trip from Lesser Hampden.
Rangers Loanee Adam Devine Ineligible to Play
Rangers academy right-back Adam Devine, who joined Queen’s Park on loan in January, will be unavailable for this match. The 21-year-old moved to the Championship side to gain more first-team experience, as opportunities at Ibrox have been limited.
However, due to SFA regulations, loan players are prohibited from playing against their parent club in the competition. As a result, Devine will have to watch from the stands while his teammates take on Rangers.
Ex-Rangers Striker Set for Ibrox Return
If Queen’s Park hope to pull off an upset at Ibrox, they will need their attacking players in top form. Currently sitting fifth in the Scottish Championship, the club is arguably underperforming given the ambitions of its backers.
Managed by Callum Davidson, Queen’s Park have a boss with a proven track record in cup competitions. Rangers are well aware of Davidson’s ability to mastermind an upset, as he famously led St Johnstone to a historic cup double in 2021—beating Rangers at Ibrox en route to Scottish Cup glory.
To cause another shock, Davidson will rely on striker Zak Rudden, a former Rangers youth player. The 25-year-old never made a senior appearance for the Gers before departing in 2020. Having previously faced Rangers with Dundee and St Johnstone, Rudden now returns to Ibrox in Queen’s Park colors, with his team’s cup hopes potentially resting on
his performance.
