Celtic and Brendan Rodgers are enjoying this season with ease, as if they’re relaxing with a cigar in hand.

If you thought Celtic were providing the real entertainment—netting 11 goals in their last two home games—then you haven’t seen the drama unfolding at Rangers, particularly with James Tavernier.

Just a day after Celtic cruised past Raith Rovers to advance in the Scottish Cup, Rangers, under Philippe Clement, suffered another embarrassing setback.

Championship side Queen’s Park arrived at Ibrox on Sunday with hopes of making history after a century-long wait, and they did just that.

Callum Davidson’s squad earned a well-deserved 1-0 victory, marking their first Scottish Cup win over Rangers in over 100 years and securing their place in the next round.

To make matters worse for Rangers, they were awarded a late penalty, only for their usual spot-kick taker, James Tavernier, to see his effort denied by Queen’s Park’s hero, Callum Ferrie, in stoppage time.

Celtic’s Treble Hopes Strengthened as Rangers Crash Out of Scottish Cup

With Rangers already beaten by Celtic in December’s League Cup final and trailing in the Premiership race, the Hoops are firmly on track for another title.

Talks of a potential Treble have been circulating for months, and with Rangers now eliminated, Celtic’s chances have only improved. Gers fans, enduring a disappointing campaign, would have been eager to derail their rivals’ ambitions, but once again, penalty heartbreak has haunted them—just like in the League Cup final at Hampden.

Derek Ferguson Questions Philippe Clement’s Future

Brendan Rodgers has seen off multiple Rangers managers during his time at Celtic, and it’s somewhat surprising that Clement has lasted this long.

The next Old Firm clash at Parkhead on March 16 could see Celtic extend their 13-point lead even further. But will Clement still be in charge by then?

Derek Ferguson wasn’t convinced, expressing his doubts about the Rangers boss on BBC Sport after the match.

“This is why Philippe Clement is under serious pressure,” Ferguson said. “With the quality of players he has at his disposal, he has to be winning games like this.”
