Giovanni van Bronckhorst Rules Out Feyenoord Return Amid Managerial Speculation
Giovanni van Bronckhorst has officially withdrawn himself from consideration for a return to Feyenoord as manager.
The former Rangers boss was among the frontrunners to replace Brian Priske, who was dismissed last week with Feyenoord struggling in fifth place in the Eredivisie, trailing league leaders Ajax by 12 points.
Van Bronckhorst, who was sacked by Besiktas earlier this season, remains a club legend at Feyenoord, having had two playing spells at De Kuip and later leading them to a Dutch league title and three national cup victories as manager. His return would have been widely welcomed by supporters.
However, the 50-year-old has made it clear he has no interest in taking the role.
“I cherish all the great moments I’ve had with Feyenoord, but returning as manager is not an option for me,” he stated.
“Have I been contacted? No. But it wouldn’t be a possibility anyway. Feyenoord needs a period of stability—not just within the squad but also at the club’s core. When things aren’t going well, there is always a lot of unrest at Feyenoord.”
Van Bronckhorst enjoyed a decorated playing career, winning five trophies with Rangers, and as a manager, he guided the Ibrox club to Scottish Cup glory in 2022. That same season, he also led them to the Europa League final, where they narrowly lost to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties.
