Galatasaray Could Revive Interest in Rangers’ Ianis Hagi
Ianis Hagi may find himself on Galatasaray’s radar following remarks made by the club’s manager, Okan Buruk, regarding the Rangers playmaker.
The 26-year-old Romanian international has strong ties to the Turkish giants, with his father, Gheorghe Hagi, being a legendary figure at the club. A potential move to Galatasaray is now being speculated as a possibility.
Hagi endured a difficult start to the season under Philippe Clement due to a contract dispute but has since regained his place in the squad. Despite his resurgence, he continues to be linked with a move away from Ibrox this summer, and Buruk’s comments have only fueled further speculation.
Galatasaray’s Past Interest in Hagi
Buruk has confirmed that Galatasaray previously explored the possibility of signing Hagi during an earlier transfer window. Speaking to the Daily Mail’s Rangers Confidential feature, he hinted that the club could revisit their interest in the future.
“During a previous transfer window, we were interested in him. He is a very good player. Unfortunately, he was injured in the past, but now he is okay,” Buruk said.
“I know he’s playing well at Rangers now. I remember him from his childhood at Galatasaray with his father—he was always around, watching training sessions.
“For the last two years, I have followed Ianis closely. He is in good shape, a talented footballer with potential. We were interested in him before, but he plays for another team at the moment. Who knows? Maybe one day he’ll play for Galatasaray.”
Hagi’s Future at Rangers in Doubt
Hagi appeared set to leave Rangers last summer after being relegated to the B team due to his contract standoff. However, after resolving the dispute, he returned to the first team and has contributed eight goal involvements in 15 Scottish Premiership appearances.
Despite his impact, speculation over his future remains strong. Reports from Pescurt suggest that Serie A side Genoa is also keen on signing him, making an Ibrox exit increasingly likely in the coming months.
Hagi’s time at Rangers has been disrupted by injuries, including a serious knee issue that led to a loan spell at Alavés after he fell out of favor under Michael Beale. When fit, he is a standout performer, but it remains uncertain whether he has a long-term future at Ibrox.
A move to Galatasaray would be fitting, given his father’s legendary status at the club. However, with multiple teams likely interested in securing his signature, Hagi’s next destination remains up in the air. Expect plenty of speculation surrounding his future in the months ahead.
