Derek Ferguson Takes a Dig at Rangers’ Decision to Keep Philippe Clement

Derek Ferguson delivered a sharp quip about Rangers’ reluctance to part ways with Philippe Clement.

Despite last weekend’s shocking Scottish Cup exit to Queen’s Park, the Belgian remains at the helm at Ibrox. Clement is set to address the media this afternoon, where he will undoubtedly face tough questions about his future. Meanwhile, Rangers are preparing to face Hearts in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

Ferguson made his remark during Open Goal’s latest podcast alongside Si Ferry, James McFadden, Gordon Dalziel, and Paul Slane. The conversation briefly shifted from Scottish football to American football following Sunday’s Super Bowl.

McFadden, well-versed in the sport, discussed why he was eager to watch and analyzed how Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs failed to meet expectations as the Philadelphia Eagles claimed victory.

Ferry showcased his knowledge of the game by using the term “sacked” to describe how Mahomes was repeatedly stopped by opponents. Seizing the moment, Ferguson delivered his punchline after a brief pause for comedic effect: “Pity big Clement wasn’t playing, eh?”

Slane immediately caught on to the jab, reacting with amusement.

Many Rangers fans have been demanding Clement’s dismissal since Sunday night’s defeat. However, new CEO Patrick Stewart has ruled out an immediate managerial change, insisting the decision to retain Clement is not financially driven.
