Rangers Boardroom Set for Change Amid San Francisco 49ers Takeover Links

Rangers are set for a guaranteed boardroom shake-up if the club undergoes a takeover, despite the complex shareholder landscape.

NFL giants San Francisco 49ers have been linked with acquiring the Ibrox club, with their chief Paraag Marathe reportedly spearheading the move.

Currently, Dave King holds a 13% stake, Douglas Park owns 11.5%, and George Taylor has over 10% of the club’s shares.

49ers Takeover to Secure Boardroom Influence

Marathe, who leads the 49ers’ investment arm, 49ers Enterprises, is aiming to make the group the club’s largest single shareholder.

According to The Scottish Sun (February 19), if the takeover is successful, it would guarantee seats on the Rangers board, with significant financial investment in the pipeline.

However, due to the club’s intricate shareholder structure, adjustments would be required to accommodate the new ownership dynamic.

The York Family, owners of the California-based NFL franchise, have an estimated net worth of £4.61 billion, and Marathe intends to leverage some of that wealth to revamp Rangers’ future.

49ers Expected to Approach King & Park

With King and Park holding the largest stakes, the 49ers may seek to negotiate with them directly to acquire their shares.

To become the dominant shareholders, they will either need to buy out existing investors or collaborate with them while securing additional shares.

The reaction of the current board members toward American investment remains uncertain, as many have been reluctant to give up their positions of influence.

Nonetheless, this potential shift in ownership is an exciting prospect for Rangers fans, who have long endured poor club management while rivals Celtic have dominated in recent years.
